The original Long Beach, NY boardwalk was built between 1907 and 1909 by William H. Reynolds, who brought 2 Elephants (Roger and Alice) to the construction site as a publicity stunt. The boardwalk was an integral part of his plan to develop Long Beach into "The Riviera of the East."
